ABOUT LPG

How does LPG work?

LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) is stored as a liquid under pressure. The liquid becomes a Gas when it exits the cylinder. It then can be used for heating, hot water, cooking etc.

How do I get my LPG regulator and changeover valve?

At Local Gas, we can organise the supply and installation of these essential items for you to be able to use LPG for your appliances. Just contact Local Gas and we can organise supply and installation with our team of Qualified Gas Technicians.

Why are LPG gas bottles and gas cylinders turned off when delivered?

If you are a new customer and two (2) bottles have been delivered, it is regulation that the bottles are left turned off. If two bottles are delivered due to you running out of gas then the bottles will be left off to ensure your safety in case you have left an appliance turned on, to prevent your house from filling with gas in your absence.

Do I have to worry about testing my gas cylinders?

You do not need to worry about the testing of your LPG Cylinders as we regularly test our bottles. Your annual facility fee covers the cost of this testing. Another option to avoid paying this annual fee is to join Local Gas, with a one off joining fee and never pay the facility fee again.

How do I check the level/amount of gas left my LPG cylinders?

Hot water can be poured down the side of the cylinder and a condensation line will appear showing the amount of gas left in the cylinder. CAUTION: Be careful when using hot water not to burn yourself. Alternatively, Local Gas can help simplify the process by installing a Gas Level Gauge. Speak to a member of the Local Gas team about this safety solution today, call (02) 4721 3777.

SAFETY TIPS

General LPG Safety Tips

  • Always make sure you use a licensed gas fitter, to ensure your setup meets Australian Compliance standards, carries out all LPG fixed installations
  • Make sure your cylinders are off before disconnecting the appliance to avoid gas flooding your house. Turning the valve on your gas bottle(s) clockwise can do this
  • Always make sure when you purchase gas appliances, that the appliance meets AGA (Australian Gas Association) standards; this approval will ensure that the appliance is suitable for use in Australia
  • LPG Bottles should be stored upright and secure at all times. 45kg bottles should never be stored in a car, and only should be transported on a truck or utility vehicle
  • Don’t leave LPG Cylinders in your car or enclosed space.
